A family of six boys and one girl, we were raised on the family farm by our parents, Séan & Josephine, in Portumna, Co. Galway. They instilled in us a great passion and desire for hurling & camogie which became part of our daily lives.

This passion inspired us to establish our own handmade hurley business in 2010. Handcrafted in our workshop in Portumna using the finest quality ash, balance is at the core of every Canning Hurley.

Initially supplying quality handmade hurleys to individuals, clubs and sports retailers throughout the country, interest from foreign markets has led to the company exporting hurleys throughout the UK, Canada and the United States.

We have been successfully involved in hurling and camogie at both club and inter county level. Collectively we have been part of teams that have won three Senior All-Ireland Club Hurling Championships, five Senior County Hurling Championships, one Minor All-Ireland Camogie Championship, five Minor All-Ireland Hurling Championships and three U21 All-Ireland Hurling Championships.

Ollie and Joe are the most well known at inter county level. Ollie at corner back, has been awarded four All-stars in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2009 throughout his 15 year hurling career with Galway.

Youngest brother Joe at the age of 23 has won two All-Star awards 2008 and 2009 and was named young player of the year in 2008. We continue to play hurling & camogie as well as being actively involved in an administrative capacity with both Portumna and Galway.

Earning recognition for hurling & camogie at such levels has led to the family gaining solid knowledge and skills of these great games. These expertise are carried through in each Canning hurley which can be found in the hands of some of the most skilful hurlers and camogie players throughout the country
